PURPOSE:To prevent optical fiber strands from being broken by coating with the external surface of a pipe in which plural optical fiber strands are loosely stored with plastic fiber having highly expanding force and then the plastic fiber is coated with a plastic covering. CONSTITUTION:An optical cable 10 consists of a plastic pipe 14 in which plural optical fiber strands 12 are loosely stored, plastic fiber 16 having highly expanding force with which the pipe 14 is coated and a plastic covering 18 applied to the fiber 16 so as to form a unit code 20. Each optical fiber strand 12 is composed of an optical fiber consisting of a core and a clad, a protective primary coat formed on the surface of the optical fiber and a buffer layer. Since these optical fibers are loosely stored, the initial slack of the highly expanding plastic fiber 16 can be compensated. |
