PURPOSE:The titled antioxidant prepd. by compounding a specified alkylphenol, dinonylated diphenylamine and tridecyl thiodipropionate. CONSTITUTION:A mixt. consisting of 1pt.wt. alkylphenol of formulaI(wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each H or 1-9C alkyl, among which at least one is not H), such as 2,6-di-tertbutyl-phenol, 1-20pts.wt. dinonylated diphenylamine of formula II and 0-20pts.wt. tridecyl thiodipropionate of formula III, is dissolved by heating with agitation at about 100-130 deg.C to prepare a liquid antioxidant for a lubricating oil. Addition of about 0.1-10wt% said antioxidant to a lubricating oil, pref. a mineral oil effectively prevents the lubricating oil from being oxidized without reducing processability. |
