PURPOSE:To efficiently cool a material without causing scratches and bends, by providing material clamping claws, freely rolatably and also freely opening and closing, to a rotary center shaft arranged horizontally at the upper side of a cooling liquid tank, and making an insertion of a center shaft and stopping the material at the positions of transfer skids and at the position of cooling in said tank possible. CONSTITUTION:A material, e.g. a steel pipe 1, charged from a charging skid 23 is set at the proper position, and a clamping claw 2, which is opened and closed by a rotation of a driving shaft 13, receives the pipe 1 in a open state. After that, the pipe 1 is brought into the lowest part of a cooling liquid tank 5 and is stopped, by rotating a center shaft 3 with the aid of a driving device 7. At this time, the shafts 3 and 13 rotate together. Then, outer surface nozzles 27 arranged along the whole length of the pipe 1 are raised, and inner surface nozzles are inserted into the pipe 1 from both sides, to jet cooling water from each nozzle to cool the pipe 1. After the completion of cooling, each nozzle is retreated and the shaft 3 is rotated again to stop at the delivery position thereby discarging the pipe 1 to a delivery skid 28. At this time, the other claw 2 is receiving the next pipe. |
