PURPOSE:To perform converter steel making wherein raw materials for inexpensive chromium sources are used and erosion of converter refractories can be suppressed by the MgO contained in the raw materials by charging reduced pellets of chromiume ore into the molten steel under blowing and blowing the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:Reduced pellets of chromium ore, for example, raw materials for Cr sources having component compsn. of 20% MgO, 10% Al2O3, 20% Cr2O3, 25% metallic Cr, 15% metallic Fe and 5% C are prepared. Such Cr reduced pellets are used as a part or the whole of Cr sources in molten metal in the stage of converter blowing. As a result, the most inexpensive Cr can be supplied, and the erosion of converter refractories is suppressed considerably by about 20% MgO contained in the pellets. The above-mentioned method is adaptable to converter steel making of not only stainless steel but low chromium steel and high chromium steel as well. |
