PURPOSE:To form a surface hardened layer through only sintering by using a material consisting of the carbides and nitrides of iron metals, Cr, Ala, IV, Va and VIa group metals, the solid solution thereof, TiC, and TiN. CONSTITUTION:The material is composed of the combined phase forming component by 10-35vol% which consists of at least one kind of iron metals and at least one kind or two kinds among Cr metals and Al, the hard phase forming component by 5-40vol% which consists of the carbides and the nitrides of IVa, Va, and VIa group metals and the solid solution consisting of at least one kind or two kinds of said carbides and nitrides, and the hard phase forming component which consists of TiC and TiN. Said hard phase forming component described the above is sintered in the high vacuum atmosphere under a pressure of 10<-1>Torr. or less and then heated at a temperature of 1,100-1,300 deg.C in the nitrogen atmosphere, and then heat-treated at a temperature of 1,100-1,300 deg.C in the atmosphere of CO and CO2 gas. |
