PURPOSE:To enable recording of high performance by a constitution wherein a plurality of electrodes are arranged with the mutual gaps varied on the surface of a solid dielectric base member and the movement of an electroosmotic liquid is controlled by a voltage between adjacent electrodes in an ink recording appratus or the like. CONSTITUTION:A liquid substance 200 moving electroosmotically in the direction of a negative electrode is provided on the surface 11 of a plate-shaped solid dielectric base member 10, and a plurality of electrodes en-x-en+x forming movement-controlling elements together with the base member 10 are arranged thereon with evaporation films, while gaps G between the electrodes are varied non-continuously at the joining points of regions A-C. When a negative ON voltage Vc is impressed on an electrode en, negative potential is formed for electrodes en-1 and en+1 adjacent thereto, and the liquid substance 200 is moved electroosmotically onto the side of the electrode en with the strength inversely proportional to the gap G and is extruded onto the side of an edge 13 to form a protrusion 210. When a positive voltage VA is impressed, it is moved reversely. By applying this controlling device for the electric movement of the liquid substance to an ink printer, an apparatus of multinozzle type, ink-on-demand type, or the like can be made to be of high performance. |
