PURPOSE:To prevent the scattering of a toner in the stage of forming a picture image and to enable the formation of the good image without contamination in the machine, by electrifying an image holding member to a positive polarity. CONSTITUTION:If the potential in an image holding member is electrified to about +1,400V by a secondary corona discharger simultaneously with image writing after uniform electrification to about -1,500V and said member is exposed over the entire surface, the potential VL in the part to be written with a picture image attains +850V and the potential in the other part attains about +350V. When the member is developed, the written part VL is developed to a visible image which is transferred. If the potential of such image holding member 1 is electrified to a positive polarity side, the toner on the member 1 no longer scatters and prevents the scattering of the toner in the device. There is a conductor in proximity to the member 1, and even if the bias voltage Vb of the polarity reverse from the polarity of the toner is impressed to the conductor, the contamination by the toner is prevented by setting the VL at about VL> Vb/2. |
