TAPED OPTICAL FIBER CORE UNIT

PURPOSE:To prevent the increase in the wall thickness of a unit sheath and to prevent the variation in transmission characteristics by interposing molded inserts in the unit sheath as a means for preventing the disturbance in the laminated layer of tapes. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber core unit is made into such construction wherein plural optical fiber cores 1 are contained in a unit sheath 6 consisting of a metal or plastic and molded inserts 7 regulating the cores 1 so as to make the same virtually immobile in the axial direction of tapes but to be made movable slightly in the laminated direction of the tapes in the sheath 6 are interposed respectively on the outside circumferences of the four surfaces of the core laminate in the sheath 6. Therefore, if the bending within the plane perpendicular to the tape plane in an easily bendable direction is applied on the unit, the cores 1 do not deviate in the transverse direction of the tapes and therefore the nonuniform side pressure no longer acts on any tape surface and the generation of the variation in the transmission characteristic of the respective strands 4 occuring in the difference in the side pressure is prevented.
