PURPOSE:To eliminate a feeling of physical disorder at selective operation of an engine, by compensating output power down of the engine at its selective time from full cylinder operation to partial cylinder operation, that is, by constituting a speed changer to be controlled in the direction of increasing its reduction ratio at partial cylinder operation of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder number variable engine 1, whose power is transmitted to driven wheels through a clutch 2, subspeed changer 3 automatically selectable to a position of low or high speed, and a manually operated main speed changer 4, is operated in such a manner that the engine 1 is selected to partial cylinder operation throuh a cylinder number change system 10 when a partial cylinder operative condition is decided to be met by a microcomputer 9 on the basis of outputs of an engine speed sensor 5 and a throttle opening sensor 6. While simultaneously, a low speed position instruction of subspeed changer is generated from the microcomputer 9, and a power shift device 11 is operated to selectively shift the subspeed changer 3 to the low speed position. |
