PURPOSE:To prevent a wasteful eveporation of an ink, by a method wherein a hole provided at a part of an ink tank and opened to the atmosphere is automatically shut off at the time of stand-by for printing, in a system wherein a carriage is provided with an ink tank and an ink is supplied to a nozzle. CONSTITUTION:An ink tank 16 is provided on the carriage 12 fitted with a printing head 11 for ejecting an ink, and an ink is supplied to the nozzle of the head 11 by a capillary phenomenon. The hole 21 opened to the atmosphere for causing the capillary penomenon to take place effectively is provided at a part of the tank 16. A valve means capable of moving vertically to open and close the hole 21 is provided for closing the hole 21 at a predetermined position where the carriage 12 is located at non-printing time. A magnet means (magnets 17c, 17c', a magnet-fitting plate 17d and a shutting-off plate 17e) for attracting the valve means in a direction for closing the hole 21 is provided at a position opposite to the valve means, thereby constituting the titled device. |
