PURPOSE:To reduce the power for rolling with simple means in a rolling method wherein a strip is windingly set on multiple work rolls by advancing the material obliquely into rolling passes. CONSTITUTION:Rolling passes P1-P3 are formed with the adjacent rolls 1-4 of the same diameter arranged perpendicularly in one row and support rolls 5, 6 are disposed at both ends of the array. The material M between the passes P1 and P2 and between P2 and P3 is windingly set respectively on tension rolls 7, 8 which apply tension on the material M to avoid slackening the material. The rolls 1-4 are driven at the higher peripheral speed v of the rolls nearer the outlet side of the rolling mill. Driving of all the rolls 1-4 is not always required. The material M held on the rolls 7, 8 in such single stand multiple- pass rolling is advanced obliquely so as to be wound on the high speed side rolls as shown in the figure. The rolling torque or rolling energy consumption is thus reduced. |
