PURPOSE:To recognize one known pattern which shows a maximum correlation as an unknown pattern by checking the correlation between the unknown pattern and known pattern by using a direction code attached to the unknown pattern and that attached to the known pattern in the same method. CONSTITUTION:A black picture element at the boundary part of the unknown pattern is given the direction code corresponding to its concatenation direction, and this direction code is given to a black picture element whose distance from the boundary part is less than a half as great as line width. Thus, a direction code is given to the unknown pattern by using the same method with the direction code given to the unknown pattern. Then, the direction code given to the unknown pattern and that given to the known pattern in the same method are used to check the correlation between the unknown pattern and each known pattern. Then, one known pattern having a maximum correlation is recognized as an unknown pattern to facilitate the recognition. |
