PURPOSE:To protect the parts of a parking brake from damage and prevent a braking force from acting to a vehicle to qucikly decelerate it, by operating a power driving means only when a manual shifting range is set as a parking range and the speed of the vehicle is not higher than a prescribed level. CONSTITUTION:A controller 30 receives vehicle speed information from a vehicle speed sensor 31 and shifting range information from a manual shifting range sensor 32. Only when a shifting range detected by the sensor 32 is a parking range and the speed of a vehicle detected by the sensor 31 is zero or not higher than a prescribed level near zero, a relay switch 39 is turned on. When the shifting range is not the parking range and the vehicle speed is not zero or is higher than the prescribed level, a switch 38 is turned on. As a result, a parking brake performs a parking brake action only when the shifting range is set as the parking range and the vehicle speed is not higher than the prescribed level. Even if the shifting range is set as the parking range by mistake during the movement of the vehicle, the parking brake never performs the parking brake never performs the parking brake action, so that safety is assured. |
