The accessory fits in the annular lid locating groove of a paint can (1). It comprises an upwardly diverging cone (6) on one side contg. a downwardly inclined plate (2) against which a brush can be pressed to determine the amount of paint taken up. An upwardly inclined plate (7), fixed in the opposite side, is provided with V-shaped cut-outs (5). Together with cut-outs (4) in the outer edge of the cone (6), these hold paint brushes when not in use. - Openings (3) in opposite sides of the cone permit fixing a cord to serve as carrying handle. The cone may, additionally, be secured on the can by clamp strips engaging the underside of the can and the upper side of the annular portion of the cone fitting the can groove.
