PURPOSE:To produce a flexible propylene polymer which is high in the MW of a boiling diethyl ether-soluble portion and improved in surface tackiness, by using a catalyst comprising an organoaluminum compound and a specified powdered solid catalyst component. CONSTITUTION:A magnesium (or manganese) dihalide (e.g., magnesium chloride) is copulverized with an organohalogen compound (e.g., dichloroethane), and the copulverized product is treated with both at least one normally liquid or liquid hydrocarbon-soluble compound represented by one of formulas I -IV (wherein M is transition metal, m is its valence, R is an (oxygen-containing) hydrocarbon residue, and X is a halogen), e.g., vanadyl trichloride, and (d) a titanium tetrahalide, e.g., titanium tetrachloride. Propylene is polymerized by using a catalyst system comprising the above produced powdered solid catalyst component and an organoaluminum compound, e.g., triethylaluminum.
