PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve battery characteristics of a lithium ion secondary battery without impairing the binding properties of an electrode binder.SOLUTION: There is provided a binder composition for a lithium ion secondary battery electrode which contains a neutralized salt of an α-olefin-maleic acid copolymer obtained by copolymerization of an α-olefin and a maleic acid and which is characterized in that an aqueous solution containing 10 wt.% of the binder composition for a lithium ion secondary battery electrode has a viscosity of 200-4,000 mPa s at 25°C and at a shear rate of 100 s. There are also provided a lithium ion secondary battery negative electrode, a lithium ion secondary battery and the like using the binder composition.SELECTED DRAWING: None
