PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume holographic element capable of suppressing distortion caused by expansion or contraction of a holographic material layer, and a display device using the volume holographic element.SOLUTION: A volume holographic element 1 includes a holographic material layer 4 where a diffraction grating is formed, a light-transmitting film 3 in contact with the holographic material layer 4, and a light-transmitting substrate 5, layered in an order to give a symmetric structure in a thickness direction. For example, the volume holographic element includes a first substrate 5A, a first holographic material layer 4A, a film 3, a second holographic material layer 4B, and a second substrate 5B, successively layered in this order. Thus, even when a stress is applied to the volume holographic element 1 upon forming interference fringes in the volume holographic element or curing the holographic material layer 4, the stress can be compensated between one side and the other side with regard to the center in the thickness direction of the volume holographic element 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
