PURPOSE:To make an electrode reaction zone three-dimensional and to improve the polarization characteristic in an electrode with an electrochemical device which separates oxygen from air by joining an ion exchange resin membrane and the electrode to one body. CONSTITUTION:An ion exchange resin membrane 1 formed by incorporating a sulfonate group into perfluorocarbon is disposed in frames 8, 8' of an electrochemical device which separates oxygen from air. Said membrane is formed by introducing a sulfonate group to a styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer and forming the same on one or both surfaces of the membrane. A mixture layer 2 consisting of short fibers of an ion exchange resin having several mu diameter and 1-2mm. length, an electrode catalyst consisting of Pt black and a binder consisting of polytetrafluoroethylene is disposed in the frames. An air electrode 3 consisting of a mixture composed of said electrode catalyst powder and binder is placed on the outside thereof. Electricity is conducted to the device from a cathode 6 and an anode 7 for current conduction and air is introduced into the device through an inlet 9. Air contg. less O2 is taken out of an outlet 10 and pure oxygen is efficiently taken out of an outlet 12. |
