The crash helmet comprises a padded (3) helmet with a splint (9) extended by a rigid back plate (11) fixed (12) to its lower part. The back plate may fit between the shoulder blades and may extend downwards as far as the level of the armpits, may attach demountably to the lower edge of the helmet, and may be secured by lateral straps. - The back plate may also be padded (15) and together with the splint may be used to adapt existing helmets, e.g. it may be stapled to an existing helmet. The assembly comprised of the splint and the back plate may be shaped to follow the concave cervical curve and may be secured by a belt.
