PURPOSE:To detect the flight speed of an individual ink droplet, in an ink jet recording apparatus, by processing the change in an induced current with the flight adhesion of the charged ink droplet. CONSTITUTION:The ink droplet 3 from a nozzle 2 is charged by a charging electrode 5 and flied toward an ink adhering body 9 through a detection electrode 7 as the charged ink droplet 3. An induced current is respectively flowed to the detection electrode 7 and the adhering body 9 when the ink droplet 3 passes the detection electrode 7 and is adhered to the adhering body 9. A passing time detecting circuit 8 processes the induced current generated in the detection electrode 7 to detect the time of the ink droplet 3 passing the detection electrode 7 while an adhering time detecting circuit 10 detects the time of the ink droplet 3 adhered to the adhering body 9 from the change in the induced current generated in the adhering body 9. The flight speed of the ink droplet 3 is calculated from both times. By this method, the flight speed of the individual ink droplet can be detected. |
