Detergent additives which have a cleaning effect on both the carburettor and the rest of the fuel inlet system (valves, intake ports, etc.) comprise a mixt. of (a) 20-250 pbw of a prim. 6-24C tert. -alkylamine; (b) 5-100 pbw of a trimeric or dimeric carboxylic acid alkylammonium salt ethoxylated alkylphenol ester; and (c) 100-650 pbw of a polyester prepd. by reacting a dimeric or trimeric acid (prepd. by polymsn. of a 16-18C unsatd. aliphatic monocarboxylic acid) with a mixt. of a 1-24C aliphatic alcohol and an alkoxylated alkylphenol. In a variant, component (b) can be omitted.
