A user equipment which performs communication with a base station in a mobile communication system supporting carrier aggregation is provided with: a transmission means for transmitting to the base station the number of layers for each of component carriers constituting carrier aggregation, as information about downlink MIMO capabilities; and a reception means for receiving from the base station, the number of layers used for determining the bit width of a rank indicator for each of the component carriers constituting the carrier aggregation.
