PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which is less in dimensional variation and excellent in durability, by interposing a metallic thin-film layer between a high molecular substrate and an applied magnetic layer which uses polymer polymerized by electron beam irradiation as a bonding material. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording medium is constituted by providing a metallic thin-film layer 2 between a high molecular substrate 1 and applied magnetic layer 3. When an electron beam 4 is radiated from the applied surface side, the electron beam 4 reaches the interface to the metallic thin-film layer 2 after passing through the applied magnetic layer 3 composed of a bonding material 3a, magnetic powder 3b, and other constituting components not shown in the figure as another electron beam 5 while losing energy. Upon reaching the interface, the electron beam 5 is separated into two parts, one part being an electron beam 7 proceeding to the high molecular substrate 1 after passing through the metallic layer 2 and another part being an electron beam 6 acting on the applied magnetic layer 3 again after it is reflected by the metallic thin-film layer 3. Since the reflected electron beam 6 effectively contributes to the polymerization of the bonding material 3a of the layer 3, the polymerization is sufficiently performed even for areas, to which electron beam does not reach because dispersion of magnetic powder is locally disturbed and the powder is cohered in a constitution, in which the metallic layer 2 is not provided between the substrate 1 and layer 3 and therefore durability is improved.
