PURPOSE:To provide an antifreeze consisting of a glycol, water, a corrosion inhibitor and a specified amide compd. and exhibiting an improved corrosion preventive effect on a heat-conductive aluminum surface. CONSTITUTION:The antifreeze is prepd. by adding 0.05-3.0wt% at least one amide compd. selected from among O-toluenesulfonamide, P-toluenesulfonamide and benzylsulfonamide, to a base antifreeze consisting of a glycol (e.g. ethylene glycol), water and a corrosion inhibitor (e.g. sodium benzoate). EFFECT:The antifreeze is useful as coolant for automobile engines which prevents freezing, rusting and corrosion of the cooling system.
