PURPOSE:The titled catalyst having a high activity and being capable of providing a stereoregular polymer in high yields, comprising a specified catalyst component, a nitrogen-containing organic compound, and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:The titled catalyst comprising (A) a catalyst component prepared by contact among a dialkoxymagnesium (e.g., diethoxymagnesium), an aromatic dicarboxylic acid mono- or di-ester (e.g., dimethyl phthalate), a halohydrocarbon (e.g., propyl dichloride), and a titanium halide of formula I (wherein X is a halogen), e.g., TiCl4, (B) a nitrogen-containing organic compound of formula II(wherein R<1> and R<2> are each an alkyl or an alkoxyl), e.g., 2,5-dimethoxyaniline, and (C) an organoaluminum compound such as a triethylaluminum compound (e.g., triethylaluminum). When this catalyst is used in the polymerization of an olefin, it can show high activity and further provide a stereoregular polymer in high yields.
