Provided is a processing method for fission products that selectively eliminates only long-lived radionuclides therefrom. A method for treating radioactive waste according to the present application is characterized by comprising a step of extracting, without isotope separation, a group of isotopes having a common atomic number that comprise radionuclides among fission products from radioactive waste and a step of bombarding the group of isotopes with high energy particles generated by an accelerator to induce nuclear transmutation of long-lived radionuclides among the radionuclides into short-lived radionuclides with short half-lives or stable nuclides capable of being reused as resources.
