A papermaking machine dewatering press is described for effecting substantially equal pressing and dewatering of both faces of a freshly felted paper web. A first press roll system dewaters the web, which is held between two felts, the dewatering occurring equally from both sides of he web. The web then passes through a four roll stack providing second, third and fourth nips. The press section described is used to dewater webs formed on a papermaking machine. It gives the advantage of substantially equally pressing and dewatering both faces of the web resulting in equal ink, size and coating receptivety/absorption characteristics.
