PURPOSE:To prepare high-purity ceramic powder having fine particle diameter in a short time and easily, by hydrolyzing a substance, which is hydrolyzed to form an oxide of a metal, etc., in the presence of water in a sprayed state, calcining the substance directly in the sprayed state. CONSTITUTION:In a production unit for ceramic powder wherein the generation part 10 of high-temperature and high-pressure water, the spray hydrolyzing part 20, the calcining part 30 and the powder recovery part 40 are set in series, the high-temperature and high-pressure water W at about 260 deg.C at about 150kg/cm<2> is generated in the pressure container 11 with the heater 12, adjusted to about 80 deg.C and about 70kg/cm<2> by the control valve 15, and introduced to the spray nozzle 22. The solution A of a substance such as an alkoxide, etc. to form an oxide of a metal or nonmetal, a hydroxide or its hydrous compound by hydrolysis is introduced from the container 21 to the spray nozzle, and the substance is made into a sprayed state with the high-temperature and high-pressure water W and hydrolyzed. The decomposition product is sent to the furnace 31 while it is in a sprayed state, and calcined in a proper temperature range of 100-1,200 deg.C. The ceramic powder P thus formed is sent to the cooler 42 and recovered by the collecting filter 41.
