PURPOSE:To obtain a character output device for always optimizing the interval between deformed characters and having highly accurate character arraying function for turned or inclined characters by calculating a rectangular area circumscribed with X and Y lines for a character frame of a character which is pattern-converted with a specified angle and controlling the interval of characters in each rectangular area. CONSTITUTION:Dotted width (dx) based upon a specified expanding/contracting magnification is set up in a register 32 out of registers 32, 35 indicating the dotted width in a main scanning direction, but ''0'' is set in the register 35 because of the dot interpolation of an erect form (or a longitudinal form, a flat form). Therefore, the contents (dot addresses) of a register 44 are sequentially updated with the dotted width (dx) based upon the specified expanding/contracting magnification in each one-dot interpolation processing. The contents of a register 48 are not practically updated and data obtained at the initializing are held as they are. Interpolation values for new dot addresses are successively outputted from an interpolation table ROM 58 and each interpolation value is compared with the threshold value (th) of a register 50 by a comparator 59 to form new dot information.
