PURPOSE:A gas to be ozonized whose density is higher than that under normal conditions is fed into the silent discharge zone in the electric field device provided with a dielectric between a pair of electrodes to effect high-efficiency production of an ozone gas used in sterilization and disinfection. CONSTITUTION:A wire discharge electrode is set inside a cylindrical dielectric 16 made of alumina ceramic or glass 16 and a flat-face dielectric electrode 18 is set outside to constitute an electric field unit 4. Individual electrodes are connected to high-frequency and high-voltage power source 19 to generate corona discharge along the inner surface of the cylindrical dielectric 16. The gas to be ozonized such as air on an oxygen-containing gas G is introduced from pipe 1, pressurized with a pump 2, cooled down with the cooler 3 to make its pressure higher than that under normal conditions, then sent into the silent discharge zone 5 in the electric field unit 4 to produce ozone by silent or corona discharge and gas is taken outside through a pressure controller 7.
