PURPOSE:To facilitate the cutting process of a fish body, by contacting a thickness detecting mechanism with the fish body, which is conveyed by rollers and the like, and measuring the thickness. CONSTITUTION:For example, meat of a cuttlefish 25 is conveyed on a feeding conveyer 6 and passes a roller 11 of a thickness detecting mechanism. Then the roller 11 contacts with the meat 25 by a spring 13. A sensor 15 slides a slide resistor 16, and the maximum resistance value is detected through a thickness-to-electrical-signal converter 19. The detected signal is compared 21 with the preset thickness stored in a setting device 22 beforehand. The compared signal is supplied to a controller 24. When the rank of the result is out of the standard, the controller 24 opens opening and closing dumpers 26 and 27 so as to drop the meat 25. When the measured thickness value of the meat 25 is ranked as the especially large standard, an actuator 28 is actuated and the meat is transferred to a conveyer 6'. When the values are ranked as large and small, actuators 28' and 28'' are actuated, and the meats are transferred to conveyers 6'' and 6''''. When the value is ranked as medium, all the actuators are not actuated, and the meat is transferred and selected from the conveyer 6 to the conveyer 6'''. Then the meat 25 is cut so that the same weight is obtained at the cutting process.
