PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of information recording, reproducing, and erasing operations, by forming the optimum gap length to a thin-film magnetic head in accordance with recording wavelength zones used for respective tracks. CONSTITUTION:A groove 5 is provided in a substrate 1 and the 1st core 2 is formed in the groove 5 so as to give a level difference to the 1st core 2. After forming gap members 3a and 3 on the 1st core 2, the 2nd core 4 is formed in such a way that the 2nd core 4 faces the 1st core 2. The depth of the groove 5 formed in the substrate 1 is made equal to the difference G2-G1 in gap lengths and the gap member 3 is worked so that the thickness of the member 3 can become equal to the gap length G1. Since the plane formed by each 2nd core 4 becomes almost a flat plane in such a way, the efficiency of the information recording, reproducing, and erasing operations can be improved and, at the same time, a multi-track thin-film magnetic head having high machining accuracy can be obtained. |
