PURPOSE:To apparently reduce the omission of information, by controlling the transferring speed of a recording medium so that the pattern of a recording track observed from the existing position of a rotary head can become a prescribed one and setting the position of one out of noise bars to a position which does not appear in a reproduced picture. CONSTITUTION:If a tape speed becomes nine times faster than that at the time of normal reproducing mode in a search reproducing mode, the pattern of a recording track observed from the existing position of a rotary head to a head switching signal SWP as shown in Fig. (A) becomes the one shown in Fig. (C). At this time, the signal level of a reproduced RF signal becomes the one shown in Fig. (B) and information of four recording tracks only is obtained on one-field period by the azimuth effect of the magnetic head. When the frequency outputted form a four-frequency signal generating circuit 8 is made coincident to the frequency of a pilot signal recorded on the track corresponding to the 3rd information as shown in Fig. (D) under this condition, a tracking error signal becomes ''0''V at the point where the RF signal containing the 3rd information becomes the maximum as shown in Fig. (E). Therefore, the generating timing of a sampling pulse (a) is made coincident to the point where the RF signal containing the 3rd information becomes the maximum as shown in Fig. (F).
