PURPOSE:To enhance the starting ability of a Diesel-engine, by providing a swirling passage and a direct passage in the intake-port of the engine, by disposing a valve which opens upon predetermined load operation in the direct passage and by providing a shutter valve in the swirling passage. CONSTITUTION:A swirl passage 6 which effects swirls and a rectilinear direct passage 8 having a less resistance are communicated with an intake-air port B disposed therein with an intake valve 7 of a Diesel-engine, and a valve 15 which is opened in an operating range from low load operation to high load operation is disposed in the swirl passage. Further, a vacuum operated valve C which opens when the vacuum in the direct passage 8 is higher than a predetermined value, is disposed in the direct passage 8, and when the valve 15 is closed upon cold starting, the valve C in the passage 8 opens due to lowering of a piston 4 to introduce fresh air at a stretch into an engine cylinder upon predetermined load operation so that the temperature of intake-air is raised by the adiabatic compression heat to enhance the startability of the engine. |
