PURPOSE:To prevent the fall off of the active material in the process of battery assembly retaining the advantages of the paste type negative electrode, so as to improve its mechanical strength, by using aqueous nylon as the binder of a non-sintered type negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:In the manufacturing process of a paste type Cd negative electrode wherein aqueous nylon is used as single or at least one of plural binder materials, aqueous nylon helps to keep the mechanical strength of the electrode before entering the formation process, whereas it dissolves out into the electrolytic liquid during the formation process. But at the same time, the network of metallic Cd generated in the electrode plate during the same process helps to maintain the mechanical strength thereafter. When the manufacturing does not involve the formation process, aqueous nylon keeps the mechanical strength till the battery assembly is completed, and after that, the strength is maintained as a result of pressing between the electrode plates themselves. Regarding the capacity of the electrode plate, since aqueous nylon finally dissolves out, the active material utilization rate, charge-discharge capacity at high rate, and gas absorption are improved as a result of the increase of the contact area of the active material and the electrolytic liquid, and also due to increase of the porosity. |
