PURPOSE:To detect easily and safely the leak defect part of a structure such as pressure vessel or piping from the discoloration of a discoloring agent by coating a material consisting of a combination of a gas adsorbent and the discoloring agent to a leak detecting part and forcing gas such as NH3 which produces a complex, etc. by adsorbing metallic ions into the structure. CONSTITUTION:Cu and Mn ions, etc. are substd. by an ion exchange method and are incorporated as the discoloring agent into the gas adsorbent consisting of zeolite, active clay, etc. The material prepd. by dispersing such zeolite into alcohol, water, etc. is coated to the leak detecting part of the structure such as pressure vessel, tank or piping in order to detect the leak defect part thereof. The gas such as NH3 which adsorbs metallic ions by utilizing the phenomenon in which the gas forms, for example, [Cu<2+>]NH3 by reacting with Cu<+>, etc. and changes the discoloring material from a pale blue to bluish purple color and from a beige to brown color with Mn ions is forced into the structure to detect the leak point. The NH3 may be incorporated at about 0.1% in air and is virtually harmless. The zeolite in the detecting part is easily removable by wiping or rinsing. The easy detection of the leakage in a short period is thus made possible. |
