PURPOSE:To improve starting characteristic of battery at low temperature by providing a heater in a battery and charging with fuel battery or heating electrolyte so that the charging condition of battery and electrolyte temperature satisfy the specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:The charging condition of battery 7 is detected by a charging current detected by an ammeter 12, electrolyte temperature of the battery 7 is detected by a liquid temperature sensor 76 and such data is input to a controller 13. When charging is sufficient but liquid temperature is low, the controller 13 separates the contacts c, c' of changeover switch 11 from the contacts a, a' and then connects them to the contacts b, b', supplies the power to a heater 75 from the fuel battery 9. Thereby, the electrolyte of battery 7 is heated. When charging is insufficient and liquid temperature is low, the contacts c, c' are alternately connected to the contacts a, a' and b, b' for charging and heating of electrolyte. When these become sufficient, the contacts c, c' are separated from the contacts a, a' and b, b' and the power supply circuit and charging circuit are both opened. |
