In a known process, smooth tubes are provided with transverse ribs by pushing the transverse ribs produced by a punch onto the smooth tubes immediately after said ribs have been stamped. This is accomplished by means of driver chains and drivers which are linked in terms of their drive to the punch drive. In this arrangement, it is the punch-end chain wheels which are driven. However, this arrangement only provides a satisfactory solution in the case of comparatively short tubes. In order to be able to rib long tubes satisfactorily as well, the chain wheels 5 are now driven at the opposite end of the pull-on bench 3 from the punch 1. As a consequence, the transverse ribs are no longer pushed onto the smooth tubes but are now pulled on, guaranteeing satisfactory jerk-free ribbing even of tubes with a length of 15 m and more. <IMAGE> |
