PURPOSE:To detect the home position of a carrier and the presence of a paper by providing a photo sensor mounted on the carrier and reflectors provided on both ends of a printing region for a serial printer. CONSTITUTION:A serial printer has a photo sensor 4 mounted on the carrier 3 of a printing head 3 and reflectors 6 and 7 set on both ends of a printing region of a printing paper 1 on a platen 2. When the carrier 5 is once scanned bilaterally when making a power source (when no paper is present), for example, the reflectors 6 and 7 are detected by the sensor 4 and the printing region and the home position of the carrier 5 are detected. At the same time, the pressure of a printing paper 1 is also detected. After the paper 1 is set (or when paper is present), the left- and right-handed ends and upper and lower ends of the paper 1 are detected by the sensor 4. |
