摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the character recognizing efficiency by segmenting the characters with the scan direction where the coincidence is secured substantially between the character density distribution obtained from scanning and the standard character density distribution equivalent to a single character defined as a sloping angle of characters for correction of the character tilt. CONSTITUTION:A photoelectric conversion part 1 reads optically the characters written on a slip, etc. and applies them to a pattern buffer memory 2 after converting those characters into digital electric signals. The memory 2 stores the character read result equivalent to a single line of a single scan in the form of a dot pattern. A line detection part 3 performs a scan in the line direction and integrates the number of black dots. Then the part 3 obtains a part where the integration value is less than the threshold value and repeats scans by tilting gradually the scan direction for each prescribed angle until the number of pats where the integration value is less than the prescribed value reaches the prescribed value. A tilt correcting part 4 corrects the tilt of characters based on the result obtained by the part 3. Then a character segmentation part 5 scans the corrected pattern of the memory 2 in the direction orthogonal to the line direction and segments characters one by one. Thus the character recognizing efficiency is improved.
