PURPOSE:To obtain a simplified KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) so forming the system that a combination of neighboring words is extracted as a compound word, which is decided whether or not valid as a tentative word, and a valid compound word is treated as one word. CONSTITUTION:A KANA character-string is inputted to an input character-string buffer 2 through a keyboard 1. A KANA/KANJI conversion controlling part 3 generates a KANA character string, in accordance with which a lexicon storage device 4 is retrieved in order to fetch a data of the part of the tentative word, that of a frequency rank, output order, and of a pointer. Based on the said information, a compound-lexicon storage device 5 is retrieved, and an inflexion table part 6 fetches a connection weight from a connection-weight table part 7 that is specifying the part of a word from the device 4 and the line/column of that of the words in front and rear of the said word, and generates a compound word. An evaluater 8 calculates the evaluation value of the compound word treated as one word. A word-string is transferred to an output character string buffer 9 in the order of the evaluation values. After being confirmed and corrected while displayed in a CRT 10, the word-string is stored in a document file part 11, as well as printed out by a printer 2.
