FLAME-RETARDANT POLYOLEFIN COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:To provide a composition having high flame-retardance as well as sufficiently good physical properties, by compounding a flame-retardant material to a straight-chain ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer produced by the vapor-phase low-pressure process. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100pts.wt. of a straight-chain ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer having a density of <=0.910g/ml and produced by the vapor-phase low-pressure process is compounded with (B) 5-250pts. of flame-retardant material. The component A is produced by using a 3-8C compound as the alpha-olefin, and polymerizing the olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a combination of a transition metal compound of the groups IV-VIII of the periodic table and an organic metallic compound of the group I-III. The component A is produced by a continuous process comprising the contact of a gaseous mixture of an alpha-olefin and ethylene (at a molar ratio of 0.35-8.0:1) containing 25mol% rare gas continuously with a specific catalyst precursor particle in a fluidized bed reaction zone at 10-80 deg.C under <=7,000 KPa pressure and the activation of the product with an organic aluminum compound.
