Provided are: a fastener chain manufacturing method by which a decorative pattern can be applied to a prescribed position on a fastener chain, without applying a plurality of position detection marks at regular intervals as in the prior art; and a slide fastener. The present invention comprises: a first conveyance step (S1) in which a fastener chain (80) comprising a pair of fastener element rows (82) in a meshed state is conveyed; a decorative pattern application step (S2) in which a decorative pattern (D) is applied to at least one of a surface and the reverse surface of a pair of fastener tapes (81); a position detection mark application step (S2) in which position detection marks (M) are applied to at least one of the surface and the reverse surface of the pair of fastener tapes (81); a second conveyance step (S3) in which the fastener chain (80) which has had the decorative pattern (D) and the position detection marks (M) applied thereto is conveyed; and a position detection step (S4) in which the position detection marks (M) applied to the pair of fastener tapes (81) are detected by a detection means (50). The decorative pattern (D) is applied between two of the position detection marks (M) applied at intervals in the longitudinal direction of the fastener chain (80), and a prescribed process is performed on the basis of a detection signal from the detection means (50). |
