PURPOSE:To easily use a semiconductor memory having an error correcting function by the user by providing a terminal for issuing a signal for indicating the completion of a the preparation of reading or writing the data. CONSTITUTION:A time tD from the time when a chip select signal -CS is im pressed to the time when a preparation completing signal -READY is issued is different in the case of reading from the case of writing. Namely a cycle of a self-exciting oscillation by a delay circuit 30 is considered to be tC, it is longer by 7tC in the case of the reading. However, as the user, similarly in the case of the reading and in the case of the writing, the issuing of -READY may be detected and SCLK impressed four times. Thereby, by an error correcting function, a memory in which an access time is not fixed can be easily used by the user.
