The apparatus for the automatic removal of one or more articles from containers (2) which are open at the top has a frame (1) in the lower part of which at least one replaceable container can be deposited with the articles to be removed and which in the region above the container which can be deposited supports a carriage guide for a reciprocating lifting device (10), the lifting rod (18) of which being equipped at its lower end with a swivel arm (19), which in turn supports a removal head (15) on its free end. The removal head can be lowered at any point inside the container by means of controllable lifting and swivelling movements of the lifting rod. Complete emptying of the containers can be achieved with an apparatus of compact design and with a very small outlay on control elements (Fig 1). <IMAGE>
