A conveyor (35), which can be switched in steps further along the winding stations (7, 8) towards the tube-receiving apparatus (36), possesses receiving elements (34), each for an individual tube (52 to 61). Tube magazines (24, 25) present at each winding station (7, 8) possess individual delivery devices (27, 29, 33). At the front in the direction of transport there are sensors (70, 71) for tubes (60) having a still useful yarn package, and these sensors cooperate with a first tube ejector (73). At a distance from these sensors, there is a further sensor (72) for tubes (61) having a no longer useful yarn package, and this further sensor cooperates with a second tube ejector (74). Tubes having a useful yarn package pass into a collecting vessel (81), whilst tubes having a no longer useful yarn package pass into another collecting vessel (82). Only tubes free of yarn packages pass to the tube-receiving apparatus (36). <IMAGE>
