PURPOSE:To improve the transient characteristic of a linear pulse motor by providing a magnetic unit or a permanent magnet at a holding member having a driver for moving a movable element along a guide passage, thereby shortening a setting time. CONSTITUTION:A roll 11 is held by a holding member 13, the member 13 is moved in the state for placing a movable element on a guide passage formed on the magnetic flux generating surface of stator to form a linear pulse motor. In this case, a magnetic unit or a permanent magnet 20 is provided at the portion opposed to the stator or the member 13. Thus, the magnetic unit is effected by an attracting force by the magnetic flux of the stator to act a brake force to the member 13, thereby shortening the (setting) time to stop the element.
