To convert petroleum processing residue into higher-grade petroleum products, such as light-fraction distillates, natural gas is made reactive in an oven (4) by radical formation of the hydrocarbon components, then added in the reactive state to the petroleum processing residue in a reaction chamber (3). The said residue is very finely divided, dispersed in the form of an aerosol in the reaction chamber (3) and then mixed with the thermally activated natural gas. |
