PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electroplating bath and method for deposition of glossy dark chromium layers for decorative purposes which counteract disadvantages of the state of the art.SOLUTION: The electroplating bath comprises: (A) trivalent chromium ions; (B) carboxylate ions; (C) at least one pH buffer substance; and (D) at least one coloring agent selected from: sulfur-containing compounds having the general formula (I) or having the general formula (II); salts, tautomeric forms and betaine structures thereof; and the like.SELECTED DRAWING: None
