PURPOSE:To produce optical fibers of high quality stable at a high speed, by keeping the positional relation of an opening of a wire drawing furnace and material for the optical fibers always at a proper relation. CONSTITUTION:An opening member 11 which is an inserting port of a wire drawing furnace 1 of a base material 2 for optical fibers and equipped with an opening (11a) having a little larger diameter than the base material 2 for the optical fibers is provided in a wire drawing apparatus of the optical fibers. Projectors (12a) and (12b) for projecting light to the opening part from mutually different directions and receptors (13a) and (13b) for receiving the light from the projectors (12a) and (12b) and detecting the position of the base material 2 for the optical fibers inserted from the opening part into the wire drawing furnace 1 are provided in the opening member 11. A controlling device 14 is capable of moving the opening member 11 in at least two different directions in a plane perpendicular to the inserting direction of the base material 2 for the optical fibers based on the detected signals from the receptors (13a) and (13b) and further controlling the positional relation of the base material 2 for the optical fibers and the opening (11a). |
